Matti Defillet

Matti has only recently joined our team and brings with him a strong background in policy advice and sustainability. From 2021 to 2024, he worked at the Flemish government’s Agency for Agriculture and Sea Fisheries, where he conducted studies on economic and social issues in the agricultural sector, drafted policy papers and subsidies, conducted a large-scale survey and developed economic barometers.

Before that, from 2020 to 2021, Matti was a junior sustainability consultant at Studio Gear Up in Amsterdam, a company specialising in national and European environmental policy analyses. Here he strategically advised companies and governments on the climate transition and biobased economy, and conducted research and advised the transport sector on the transition to climate neutrality.

Matti obtained a master’s degree in international relations and diplomacy in 2020 and a master’s degree in commercial engineering: sustainability engineering from the University of Antwerp in 2019. In the process, he gained various international experiences in Slovenia and the United States.

In his free time, Matti often wanders around (flea) markets, regularly visits museums and can often be found in local coffee bars with a book in hand. As a volunteer, he is active at concert hall Trix where he provides thirsty concertgoers with drinks. Hiking, jogging, basketball, skiing and many other sports are the ideal way for him to relax.
